Named after the ancient Greek word “teúkhò” meaning “to create artfully”, the namesake brand is led by the Garzitto family who has been a leader in woodworking since the 1960s. Expert artisans handcraft spectacular contemporary furniture and accessories using fossilized logs dating back to 6000 BCE, heightening the singular allure. Each piece is a tribute to the natural essence of these millenary plants, finished with natural hues that don’t alter their true colors but rather accentuate the little imperfections that make them one-of-a-kind.
Teúkhō transforms the precious fossil oak into unique pieces with contemporary design, supporting sustainability.
Founded in 1960 in Friuli, the land of the chair production, by Graziano and Luciano Garzitto. The company initially specialized solely in cutting logs and in the supply of high-quality unfinished components to the local chair and furniture industry. Over the last few years Graziano’s children Costantino, Cristian, and Sabrina developed a separate design and build a house under the Teúkhō brand. Ever mindful of their long-held policies supporting sustainability, the next generation of Garzittos have quite literally carved out a singular niche in the luxury design industry, utilizing their unmatched understanding and passion for fossil oak, with its everlasting and profound beauty and its excellent environmental credentials.
The history-rich wood at the base of every Teúkhō’s design originates from fallen oak trees in ancient forests that have been trapped in riverbeds and submerged in sediments without oxygen. This has resulted in a unique fossilization process that allowed the oak to develop an enhanced and distinctive texture and color not seen with contemporary examples. The variations in color and texture are spectacularly diverse, with the older woods displaying rich browns and dark greys that are simply unrivaled by modern oak equivalents. The fossil oak has been the protagonist in numerous masterpieces of man today handed down to history as a heritage of humanity.
